David Gilmour Model

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elvis Costello, J Mascis and even John Mayer have one, so it’s a little startling to learn that David Gilmour, one of the most iconic guitar players of the 20th century, is only now joining the ranks of musicians with signature model Fender guitars.

The Gilmour Stratocaster, a replica of the black guitar the Pink Floyd singer began using in the late ’60s, will come in two models: the “Relic,” which re-creates the guitar in its current well-worn state, and the “New Old Stock” model, which features new parts and a proper finish. Fender hasn’t yet made available information on the guitar, but a few details are available here and here.

The guitar hits the shops Sept. 22, the day before the U.S. release of Gilmour’s new “Live in Gdansk” album and DVD, recorded at the last date of his 2006 world tour.
